When you grow up, you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world, try not to bash into the walls too much, try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money.
That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader, once you discover one simple fact, and that is that everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.
“In March 2009, Cameron and his wife, Suzanne, spent several days in Rome to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. This was also a chance to observe in detail the Coliseum, which Cameron had already selected as the next subject in his series of letterpress posters. Over the course of the next 12 months, the artwork was handcrafted character by character, totaling roughly 250 hours of work from start to finish.”

This letterpress poster of the Coliseum on Colosseotype.com just takes my breath away - it’s beautifully done. The site is also filled with beautiful calligraphy and typography - like this book.
Coincidentally I came across a few beautiful Japanese websites that feature special types of paper the same day - Zwillinge and TAKEOPAPER.com
Altogether, these sites are just so…divine.

p.s. Another interesting find of the day… Lincoln’s Gettisburg Address

Not that I know a lot about films but I know the talent when I see one. Kensaku Kakimoto is a young Japanese film director who is capable of creating a truly original world filled with warmth and love for ‘hito’ or human being. I originally discovered him when I was browsing Youtube for the Japanese singer/songwriter Ohashi Trio, another seriously underdiscovered talent who’s gradually getting the recognition he deserves. Kakimoto directed almost all his music videos.
I recently found out that Kakimoto has an official website. (And there’s an English version - yay!) The site is a bit heavy to load, but you can view some of his works. He creates a wonderful world through his films and short videos.
By the way, if you happen to know where I can get my hands on the “BAUMKUCHEN” DVD, please let me know - I’ve been looking for it for months.
